Unexpectedly, in the very heart of a noisy megapolis, like a strike from the heavens, the Tower appeared.
Black and flawlessly smooth, it pierced the clouds and stretched far beyond sight — a multi-kilometer monolith that hadn’t existed just yesterday. Neither the government, nor scientists, nor the military could explain where it had come from or what it wanted. Twelve expeditions entered it. None returned.
And you… you have nothing left to lose.
Just a week ago you had a job, a girl you loved more than life itself, and at least some plans for the future. Now — only empty pockets, a termination notice, and the bitter taste of heartbreak. The apartment is about to be taken for debts, food has become an unattainable luxury, and the future looks like one solid gray wall.
And now here you stand, in front of this impossible Tower, looking up until your neck starts to ache. The wind coldly tugs at your jacket. Only one thought echoes in your head:
“Can it get any worse?”
You take a step.
And the world changes.
The city vanishes. Instead of asphalt and neon - a dense ancient forest, thick with the scent of pine, wet earth, and something strangely alien. Between the trees in the distance, the roofs of a small village can be seen. Smoke from chimneys. Human voices. Life.
You don’t know where you are. You don’t know what this place is or what secrets the Tower hides. But for the first time in a long while, a strange, almost forgotten feeling appears in your chest.
Hope.
Because if none of those who entered ever returned, it means perhaps no one had been desperate enough. And unlike the others, you have no way back.
