Kobold Festival positions itself as an intimate exploration of identity and connection within an underground mining city populated entirely by kobolds. You play as Leeg, a customizable kobold protagonist navigating Mandl City's social landscape, meeting characters with their own histories and personalities. The game's current build (0.0.3.162) extends playable content through Festival Day 6 Evening, offering a foundation for what MouseSix intends as a substantially larger experience.

Gameplay balances social simulation with strategic card battles. The rapport system lets you deescalate conversations, unlock new dialogue topics, and deepen relationships with other characters—the pacing mechanism that drives both narrative and romance progression. Combat uses a lane-based card system where party members, abilities, items, and weapons are arranged to exceed enemy numbers; it's a streamlined tactical layer rather than the game's focus. Character customization—name, appearance, and accessories—establishes player investment early, though MouseSix notes expanded options are coming in future builds.

The adult content develops gradually. MouseSix is explicit that future versions will include more NSFW scenes and same-sex romance, with current monthly Patreon polls determining which characters receive additional artwork. This positions Kobold Festival as a work-in-progress title where intimate moments will expand significantly; the existing build is relatively restrained by comparison.

Technically, the game runs on Ren'Py across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.
