The premise hinges on a deceptive premise: an app designed to cure loneliness that becomes something far more sinister as reality warps around you. Rather than a straightforward adaptation, this is a psychological horror experience that uses the familiar SCP framework as scaffolding for exploring isolation, obsession, and the cost of connection.

Built in Ren'Py and currently at version 0.3 with the "Final Act" now available, MalOvent structures itself around branching choices that genuinely matter—not just for your character's arc but for the game world itself. The visual novel format allows Night Fox Works to layer atmospheric dread through pacing and dialogue while the furry aesthetic adds an unsettling dimension to the horror (the MalO entity itself is rendered in a distinctly unsettling art style by monorus).
