Crimson Hydrangea trades the typical romance visual novel setup for something far darker. You arrive on Saint Anne's Island as a fresh start after a rough breakup—a picturesque escape complete with a supportive roommate, understanding boss, and charming baker. The island feels like a refuge until Garret Belmont, the wealthy and charismatic bachelor everyone desires, takes an intense interest in you. What begins as flattering attention quickly reveals cracks in the island's idyllic facade.

ThePhantomLegume's debut uses Ren'Py to weave together dating sim mechanics with genuine psychological horror. The Day 2 Demo currently contains over 35,500 words across multiple routes, giving substantial narrative meat even at this early stage. You'll encounter five distinct love interests, though some routes remain unreleased, and the game promises multiple endings—both the satisfying and the devastating variety. The visual presentation includes six fully illustrated CGs, with additional artwork available through the developer's Patreon.

The horror elements aren't window dressing: expect graphic violence, kidnapping, torture, and unhealthy relationship dynamics that escalate beyond typical yandere territory. Emotional manipulation and psychological torment form the core of the narrative tension rather than jump scares or gore for its own sake. The game includes explicit intimate scenes tied to character routes, framed within the game's darker context.
