Early-stage fantasy reincarnation VN with voyeuristic scenes and D&D worldbuilding
StashlyVN Review
Divine Ascension is MisterNomNoms's ambitious attempt to build a story-driven fantasy experience centered on reincarnation into a D&D-adjacent world. You play as a character given a second chance after accidental death, thrust into a realm of magic and monsters with minimal agency—at least for now. The premise shows promise: a protagonist journeying with traveling companions from a campsite hub, gradually discovering this new universe. However, what's here is genuinely just the prologue's first half, featuring two women who won't carry forward into the main narrative.
Gameplay is minimal by design. Ren'Py handles the visual novel framework, but choices are sparse; this is a linear story experience meant to establish tone and setting rather than offer branching paths. The developer is transparent about this being a foundation: 150+ renders comprise the current build, with plans to rebuild early scenes as lighting and animation skills improve. Expect roughly 3 screenshots' worth of content, primarily observational rather than interactive.
The adult content takes a voyeuristic angle—you witness intimate moments rather than participate in them. MisterNomNoms has explicitly stated no plans for NTR involving the player's eventual love interest, though early story beats mention the possibility for the prologue characters (a design choice they're willing to revisit). Future plans include free-use themes and avoidable tentacle content, signaling a willingness to explore varied fantasy-sexual scenarios.
Technically, this is a work-in-progress by someone learning Ren'Py and 3D rendering on the job. Monthly updates are promised. If you're comfortable with unfinished, experimental projects and patient with frequent revisions, there's a kernel of an intriguing premise here—but expect to wait for the actual story.
Pros
- Developer is transparent about scope and actively improving rendering skills
- Clear D&D-inspired worldbuilding foundation for expanded storytelling
- Monthly update cadence shows commitment rather than abandonment
- Planned content diversity (free use, avoidable fetishes) suggests player agency will grow
- No NTR planned for main character relationships
Cons
- Extremely early; you're getting half a prologue, not a game
- Voyeur-only scenes with no player interaction currently
- Very few choices; primarily a linear visual read
- Early renders will be remade, making replays redundant
- Patreon-dependent development may stall without funding
